Supply Chain and Labor Notice

LMU Dining is excited to welcome our students, faculty, staff, and community back to campus!  As you surely have already noticed across the country, the COVID pandemic has changed the landscape of how we live and navigate our day to-day.  We have all experienced our favorite restaurants with longer than usual lines and a longer wait for food to be made, higher than normal prices, and a less than normal number of employees on staff. You also may have noticed that some of your favorite items aren’t on the shelf at the store lately, and the places you shop may close early or may have closed indefinitely.


This pandemic has impacted our producers, manufacturers, and distributors as well, which is causing LMU Dining to continuously pivot and adjust to the environment.  Just as you’ve seen off campus and have heard about across the county, we are experiencing a shortage in employee applicants and our supply chain is unable to guarantee delivery of some items on a regular basis. We are proud to offer a high-quality dining experience, and we want you to know what to expect in this evolving environment.


At LMU Dining we make every effort to make your experience on campus the very best it can be, even with market disruptions.  We offer our team members a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, as well as bonuses for coming on board and continuing to work on campus each semester.  In addition, we offer team members referral bonuses and have also partnered with local culinary schools and job placement programs to get new members on our team, as well as mailings to all households in local zip codes to recruit new staff (reaching over 19,000 people!).  Despite several months of recruiting work, the labor market continues to be difficult, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation while we continue to work toward getting fully staffed.  We know that the LMU community supports everyone that contributes to the campus family – and we thank you in advance for your understanding as there may be instances where short-staffing may lead to adjustments to the program, to hours of operation, or more patience being required than usual. 


Our chefs have been adjusting menus and operations to meet the needs of our students and community while balancing the fragile distribution system, workforce, and product availability across the United Sates. We have experts working behind the scenes to identify shortages in the food production and distribution systems ahead of time to allow our local chefs to make menu adjustments so that you are well taken care of.  Our catering team is customizing our menus and services to deliver a high-quality product that meets your expectations given product availability. While we are putting every effort into getting every ingredient or item on campus for you to enjoy, there may be times where they are not delivered or available.  We will continue to work on alternative items to give you the best experience possible until the supply chain catches up.
